The Quantum Optics group at the IHFG conducts research on many different aspects of photonics and quantum photonic technology. The main platform is based on semiconductor quantum dots emitting at various spectral ranges, from visible to near infrared and telecom. These non-classical light emitters are rapidly establishing as one of the most promising candidates for photonic-based quantum technology. The group is often reaching and pushing forward the state-of-the-art of research and technology.

We are currently focusing our research in the following macro-areas:

  • Understanding and improving the performances of QD-based quantum light sources
  • Mid- and long-distance quantum communication at telecommunication wavelengths
  • On-chip quantum optics and computing
  • Efficient interface of quantum dot light with other platforms, like warm atomic vapours

The group, led by Dr. Simone Luca Portalupi and the institute leader Prof. Peter Michler, normally counts more than 15 members, between PhD students, MSc and BSc students. The atmosphere is very open and collaborative, often seeing several students teaming up for achieving high demanding goals.
