The scientific work of the institute for semiconductor optics and functional interfaces (IHFG) is dedicated to the physical basics and applications of semiconductors for quantum optics, photonics and quantum information technologies. The research work is focused on the epitaxial growth of semiconductors (MOVPE, arsenides, phosphides, nitrides), physics of semiconductor nanostructures, novel materials research as well as physics and technology of photonic devices. A special focus is on the fabrication and characterization of new kinds of semiconductor light sources, e.g. single photon and entangled-photon sources and different kind of semiconductor lasers.
